Description

The second round of the Blue Bay LPGA at Jian Lake Blue Bay Golf Course is a true test of patience and distance control on Hainan Island. After an opening day that saw the leaders capitalize on the tropical conditions, the strategic focus for Friday is navigating the "notoriously breezy" coastal winds that pick up as the heat rises. The massive, undulating greens require players to hit specific quadrants to avoid treacherous long putts, making approach-shot precision far more valuable than raw power.

The narrative continues to center on the local Chinese stars aiming to win on home soil, with a record number of domestic players in the field. However, the international contingent is well-accustomed to these conditions, and the battle for the top of the leaderboard remains a high-stakes chess match. With no cut in this elite field, Round 2 is about separating from the pack and finding the right "lines" through the swirling winds before the weekend pressure intensifies.

Result Description

Mi Hyang Lee delivered a clinical, bogey-free 6-under-par 66 to seize the outright lead at the halfway point of the Blue Bay LPGA. The South Korean, chasing her first victory in over eight years, navigated the gusty conditions with expert iron play to reach 11-under-par total. Lee’s strategy of hitting specific sections of the undulating greens paid dividends, as she converted birdies on three of the four par-5s to pull one stroke clear of the field.

The home crowd had plenty to cheer about as Yu Liu climbed into solo second at 10-under-par. The former Duke standout carded a 66 of her own, highlighted by eight birdies, as she looks to join Shanshan Feng as the only Chinese winner in the tournament's history. American Auston Kim remains a dangerous threat in third at 9-under after an adventurous 68 that included an eagle on the 8th hole. However, the shot of the day belonged to world No. 10 Ruoning Yin, who electrified the local gallery with a hole-in-one on the par-3 7th—her 16th hole of the day—to move within six shots of the lead.
