Description

The second round of the 2026 IOA Championship at Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon serves as the pivotal "Moving Day" on the Champions Course. With the field cut to the top 60 and ties after today's play, the strategic narrative centers on navigating the high-desert winds that typically intensify during the afternoon wave in Beaumont. The primary hurdle for the field is the dramatic elevation changes on the back nine, which complicate club selection and distance control. Tactically, players must target the correct tiers on the massive, undulating greens to avoid the treacherous long-range putts that often lead to three-putt bogeys.

The headline story for Saturday focuses on the scramble for a position in Sunday's final group. Following an opening round that traditionally favors long hitters, the second round rewards those with superior iron play and tactical discipline. Strategically, the focus is on the four par-5s, which represent the most consistent scoring opportunities on a layout where the rugged canyon terrain can quickly punish over-aggression. With a $200,000 purse and vital "Race for the Card" points at stake, the leaders will look to create separation before the final round’s pressure sets in.
