Description

The 2026 Carlisle Arizona Women's Golf Classic returns to the prestigious TPC Scottsdale Champions Course, marking a high-stakes chapter in the Epson Tour's West Coast swing. As the tournament with the largest purse in tour history—boasting a record-high $400,000—the strategic narrative for Thursday’s opening round centers on handling the pressure of a major-level prize fund. The primary hurdle for the 132-player field is the desert layout's complex bunkering and firm, fast greens, which historically reward aggressive ball-strikers who can navigate the local winds characteristic of the Scottsdale valley.

The headline story for Round 1 focuses on the deep field of talent, including past major champions and rising stars looking to replicate the success of 2025 champion Sophia Popov. Tactically, the Champions Course demands precision off the tee to set up the best angles into tiered greens. Players will be looking to capitalize on the scoring stretch of the par-5s, particularly the 17th, which can provide a late-round momentum boost. With 500 Race for the Card points on the line, the opening 18 holes are essential for establishing a presence at the top of the leaderboard in what is effectively the Epson Tour's "flagship" event.
