Description

The 2026 Copper Rock Championship marks a spectacular return to the red rock majesty of Copper Rock Golf Course in Hurricane, Utah. As the tour transitions from the neon lights of Las Vegas to the high-elevation terrain of the Zion corridor, the strategic narrative for Thursday’s opening round centers on air density and ball flight. The primary hurdle for the 144-player field is the significant elevation changes and the thin mountain air, which causes the ball to travel roughly 10% further than at sea level. Tactically, players must master their "desert yardages" while navigating the course’s wide fairways that are often flanked by treacherous native lava rock and sagebrush.

The headline story for Round 1 is the intensifying race for the top 15 spots in the Race for the Card. With a $250,000 purse and 500 points awarded to the winner, this event is a mechanical necessity for players looking to solidify their standing before the tour heads to the Midwest. Strategically, the focus will be on the back nine, specifically the scenic par-3 15th and the risk-reward par-5 18th. Those who can manage the afternoon gusts—which frequently funnel through the surrounding canyons—will be best positioned to set the early pace in the shadow of the Pine Valley Mountains.
