Description

Qualifying 2 for the Coppa Shell class at The Thermal Club serves as the "mechanical necessity" for finalizing the Sunday Feature Race grid. The strategic narrative centers on whether anyone can find a response to the raw pace exhibited by Yahn Bernier during the opening sessions. The primary hurdle for the field is the 8.2km technical layout, where the rising Sunday morning heat begins to affect tire pressures and aerodynamic balance. Tactically, drivers must prioritize a clean middle sector to avoid the time-sapping "wash" from other cars, as the high-load corners of Turn 7 and Turn 8 are notoriously unforgiving to those struggling with front-end grip.

The headline story for this second qualifying session focuses on the rapid improvement of the rookie class, particularly Natalia Granada and Payton Westcott, who have shown significant gains in their sector times since the first sprint. Strategically, teams will be looking to optimize their setups for the long-run stability required in the upcoming Feature Race while still pushing for a top-three starting position. With the desert wind often picking up in the late morning, the ability to adapt braking points for the heavy deceleration zones at the end of the straights will determine who secures the final pole of the weekend.
