Description

The final round at the Whirlwind Golf Club set the stage for a historic showdown in the Arizona desert. The primary challenge for the field was chasing down world number one Nelly Korda, who entered the day with a two-shot lead and the momentum of a five-tournament winning streak. For the chasing pack, including Lilia Vu and Lydia Ko, the objective was to maintain an aggressive scoring pace on the "Cattail" course, where the birdie opportunities are plentiful but the desert scrub punishes any loss of focus.

Strategically, the final 18 holes were a test of mental fortitude under immense pressure. The objective for Korda was to utilize her superior ball-striking to keep the field at arm's length, while the tactical priority for challengers like Hyo Joo Kim was to capitalize on the four scorable par-5s. With the pins tucked in their most difficult Sunday positions and the galleries swelling at Wild Horse Pass, the goal for the leaders was to navigate the closing stretch—particularly the water-guarded 18th—without a catastrophic mistake that could swing the title.
