Description

The final 18 holes at Memorial Park Golf Course set the stage for one of the most emotional storylines of the 2026 PGA Tour season. The primary challenge for the field was chasing down Gary Woodland, who entered the day with a one-stroke lead and the weight of a seven-year winless drought. For the chasing pack, including the red-hot Nicolai Højgaard, the objective was to exploit the early scoring holes before the Tom Doak-designed greens became "firm and fast" under the afternoon Texas sun.

Strategically, the final round was a battle of discipline. The objective for Woodland was to rely on his experienced ball-striking to hit "safe" targets, while the tactical priority for challengers was to stay aggressive on the reachable par-4 17th. With the pins tucked in their most demanding Sunday positions—particularly on the water-guarded 16th—the goal for the leaders was to navigate the closing stretch without a catastrophic mistake that could hand the trophy to a surging outsider.
