Description

The final event of the 2025–26 Betway Big Easy Tour season commences at the Waterkloof Golf Club in Pretoria. The primary challenge for the 30-man field is navigating the elevation changes and firm greens of this classic Gauteng layout, which serves as the ultimate proving ground for those seeking a step up to the Sunshine Tour. The objective for the players is to secure a top-10 finish in the Order of Merit to earn their full playing privileges for the upcoming main tour season.

Strategically, the opening round is about positioning. The goal for the field is to take advantage of the reachable par-5s while avoiding the penalizing rough that has been grown out specifically for the championship finale. The tactical focus for frontrunners such as Daniel Cronje—who enters the week as a heavy favorite for the Order of Merit title—is to manage the swirling Highveld winds that traditionally pick up in the early afternoon. The ultimate goal for the starters is to post an opening score in the mid-60s to avoid playing catch-up on the final two days of this R300,000 event.

Result Description

Oliver Goldhill produced a "masterclass" in ball-striking to take a commanding lead after the first round of the Betway Big Easy Tour Final. Goldhill’s objective of a fast start was met with an incredible 11-under-par 61, a round that featured nine birdies and a spectacular eagle. His clinical performance on the greens at Waterkloof allowed him to establish a four-stroke lead over his nearest rival, marking one of the lowest opening rounds in the tour's history.

The chasing pack is led by Tristan Leonard, who carded a bogey-free 65 (-7) to sit in solo second. Daniel Cronje and Jake Bolton also remained firmly in the hunt, both signing for solid 6-under-par 66s. The day was defined by aggressive scoring across the board, with Leon Visser and Jacques van der Merwe among those posting 67s to stay within striking distance. Despite the scoring barrage at the top, the pressure of the season finale was evident for several Order of Merit hopefuls who struggled to adapt to the firm afternoon conditions.
