Description

The third round at Heron Banks Golf & River Estate is the traditional "Moving Day," where the field looks to position itself for a Sunday charge in the Sunshine Tour's "Winter Swing." The primary challenge for the players is navigating the "links-style" back nine, where the riverfront exposure to the Vaal River winds can turn a steady round into a struggle for par. The objective for the leaders is to maintain their scoring momentum on the Danie Obermeyer-designed greens, which have reached their peak speed and firmness after 36 holes of competition.

Strategically, the round is a test of discipline and trajectory control. The goal for the chasers is to capitalize on the four reachable par-5s to close the gap on the lead before the afternoon gusts become a factor on the more exposed holes. The tactical focus remains on the par-3s, particularly the 14th and 17th, where strategic bunkering and water hazards demand precise iron play. With a R2,500,000 prize purse and significant Order of Merit points on the line, the ultimate goal for the contenders is to secure a spot in the final pairing by finding the fairway consistently and avoiding the penalizing natural vegetation that frames this scenic Sasolburg layout.
