Description

The boxing world descends upon a sold-out Tokyo Dome today, Saturday, May 2, 2026, for what is widely considered the most significant matchup in Japanese boxing history. The primary challenge for Naoya "The Monster" Inoue is defending his status as the undisputed 122-pound king against the rangy, undefeated Junto Nakatani. The objective for Inoue is to secure his seventh defense of the undisputed crown and maintain his #2 global pound-for-pound ranking. For Nakatani, known as "Big Bang," the goal is to utilize his three-inch height advantage to become a four-division world champion and pull off a monumental upset.

Strategically, the goal for Inoue is to navigate Nakatani's southpaw jab and find an opening for his signature body-snatching power. The tactical focus for Nakatani is to maintain distance and leverage his youth (28) against the 33-year-old champion. With 55,000 fans in attendance and global eyes on the ring, the ultimate goal is to determine the definitive face of Japanese boxing.
