Event Statistics

Description

A prestigious European curtain-raiser takes center stage at Red Bull Arena in Salzburg as Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain collide with Europa League champions Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup. The primary hurdle for Paris Saint-Germain is finding peak match sharpness and tactical cohesion early in their campaign while facing a physically demanding English side. The objective for the Parisian giants is to control tempo through midfield dominance, stretch the pitch with dynamic wing play, and assert early authority to claim another European trophy. Concurrently, the mission for Aston Villa involves maintaining defensive structure, denying central space, and capitalizing on quick transition moments to pull off a monumental victory.

Result Description

Paris Saint-Germain defended their title and claimed the 2026 UEFA Super Cup with a 2–1 victory over Europa League winners Aston Villa at Red Bull Arena in Salzburg. The Champions League holders seized the upper hand in the 20th minute when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia cut inside from the left flank and smashed a powerful shot into the net. Aston Villa responded right on the stroke of halftime as 17-year-old debutant Brian Madjo volleyed home a cross from John McGinn to become the youngest goalscorer in UEFA Super Cup history. PSG restored their lead in the 61st minute through Désiré Doué, who ran onto a pass from Ousmane Dembélé and finished neatly into the bottom corner, a goal eventually confirmed by VAR after an initial offside call. Despite late pressure from Aston Villa, Luis Enrique's side held firm to secure the first official European trophy of the season.
