Description

Carlos Alcaraz and Jakub Mensik reunite for Team Europe in the final match of Day 1 at the 2026 Laver Cup, facing the first-time Team World pairing of Alexander Bublik and Taylor Fritz at The O2. Alcaraz and Mensik already proved an effective combination at last year’s edition, winning their doubles match in straight sets, while Fritz brings proven Laver Cup experience and Bublik returns to court immediately after his singles match earlier in the evening. With both Mensik and Bublik also playing twice on the opening day, stamina and quick adaptation could become important factors in a matchup that gives either team the chance to finish Friday with valuable momentum.

Result Description

Carlos Alcaraz and Jakub Mensik closed Day 1 of the 2026 Laver Cup in commanding fashion, defeating Alexander Bublik and Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4 to give Team Europe a 3-1 lead. The European pair combined Alcaraz’s speed and improvisation with Mensik’s power and serving, finding the decisive breaks in each set and maintaining control through the key points. Bublik, playing his second match of the evening, and Fritz produced flashes of quality but were unable to create enough sustained pressure on the European service games. After one hour and 27 minutes, Alcaraz and Mensik completed a straight-sets victory that capped a strong opening day for Team Europe and gave captain Yannick Noah a two-point advantage heading into Saturday.
