Result Description
The Sydney Roosters claimed their 16th NRL premiership with a dramatic 19-18 victory over the Newcastle Knights at Accor Stadium. Newcastle made a stunning start, racing to a 12-0 lead through Francis Manuleleua and a spectacular 96-metre try from captain Kalyn Ponga, but the Roosters gradually took control through sustained possession and field position. Mark Nawaqanitawase scored either side of halftime, Billy Smith added another, and Daly Cherry-Evans kicked what proved to be the decisive field goal in the 70th minute. Newcastle refused to surrender, with Greg Marzhew scoring late to reduce the margin to a single point, but the Roosters held firm through the final minutes. James Tedesco produced a monumental performance with 385 running metres and 14 tackle breaks to win the Clive Churchill Medal, while Cherry-Evans ended his NRL career with a second premiership.
